Best. Ecumenical. Prayer. Ever.: FF #1

I'm actually a couple weeks late with this one.  Two weeks ago, FF #1 was released.  I didn't plan ahead and put it on my pull-list.  As a result, they had to order extra copies for me and a bunch of others and they arrived earlier today.  It was well worth the wait.

FF stand for the Future Foundation.  They are the post-Human Torch Fantastic Four.  Too overwhelmed by grief to continue doing what they did before, they have focused their energies into training the future brains of tomorrow.  Think Facts of Life, except that Mrs. Garrett fights crime, the girls are all really super-smart, the school is now co-ed, and Spider-Man & Doctor Doom are both on-staff.  Lastly, instead of studying for the big trig exam or getting ready for some book report, the FF kids are contemplating the pros and cons of terraforming the moon.

It's a pretty good read so far and I'll definitely check it out for the next few issues at least.  But I really fell for this book because of one page when the whole crew were gathering for supper and young Alex Powers was asked to lead them in prayer.  Now, you gotta remember that this is a pretty diverse crowd.  Leave it to the FF to come up with the ultimate in ecumenical prayers:

Dear God...
Or other similar Judeo-Christian Messianic figure...
Or the Ancient Ones...
Or some weird evolutionary something-or-other...
Or some random confluence of events that resulted in the perfect conditions for life to flourish on this once-barren, desolate hunk of rock...
Or Mephisto, the Devil, or some other Evil Incarnate Being...
... We thank you for this wonderful dinner.  Amen.
