Now police have announced the arrest of the man they allege hopped over the counter and threatened the cashier with his knife. Meanwhile a third man has been charged with distracting the clerk immediately before the robbery, but allegedly has fled the state:
Police say they arrested Jackie J. Lane, 18, a transient, after surveillance footage and other evidence pointed to him as the man who jumped over the counter the evening of Feb. 22 and brandished a knife before making off with stolen money.If convicted, Lane could serve up to 25 years in prison.
Officers responded to the scene at Creekside Market, 2601 Hwy 6 East, at 11:02 p.m. and interviewed the female clerk who was on duty during the robbery. According to police, the woman said Lane grabbed her from behind in a choke hold, held the knife to her throat, and said, "You have five seconds to get the money or I am going to slit your throat wide open."
According to the police press release, Lane is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond at the Johnson County Jail. He is facing the charges of first-degree robbery, going armed with intent, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
The look-out for this crime, allegedly Daveon Curry, 18, was arrested as well, and is being held on $70,000 bond. He also has a first-degree robbery charge he's facing, as well as joint criminal conduct and assault charges for allegedly serving as Lane's accomplice.
Dantreil L. Ware, 18, was charged with acting as a distraction to allow Lane to get to the clerk. He, however, has fled the area, returning to the Chicago area.
