Check out this diagram to compare the sheer number of states in this country where gay and lesbian couples are allowed to legally marry versus states where first cousins are allowed to marry:
That's right. Twenty-seven U.S. states allow first cousins to legally marry, but explicitly ban gay or lesbian couples (first cousin or not!) from marrying compared to two states the other way around. Keep in mind that even states like Iowa or New Hampshire recognize heterosexual first cousin marriages performed in other states. My gay marriage, of course, is ignored in most other U.S. states.
