North Liberty City Council will begin talks regarding a new urban chicken proposal. This discussion comes at the request of a couple city residents. North Liberty currently prohibits the keeping of any livestock within city limits. The city council will discuss what types of livestock could be allowed within city limits, what the permit process would consist of, if they would require permission from neighbors first (similar to Iowa City's urban chicken ordinance), and how this new ordinance might affect city employees and resources.
Both Iowa City and Hills passed urban chicken ordinances in 2012 and Cedar Rapids passed its own urban chicken ordinance in 2010.
