The Gays Began Marrying in Iowa Four Years Ago Today

The Iowa State Supreme Court unanimously affirmed a lower court decision on April 3, 2009, that found the state's Defense of Marriage Act to be unconstitutional, which paved the way for gay weddings. But those weddings didn't begin right away. Gay and lesbian couples began legally marrying in this state four years ago today.

The Human Rights Campaign produced this 38 second video congratulating Iowa on this milestone achievement. Check it out:

That is one of the most brilliant ads I've ever seen.

That reasoning there is why gay marriage is going to continue moving on to other jurisdictions: Once people see the track record in places like Iowa, the fear will die down.
