Character Sketch Details Released for Archie Comics' "Riverdale" Televison Series!

I've written before that Archie Comics has been working on a live action television project and that they eventually settled down with the CW network for their "Riverdale" program. Late yesterday afternoon, character breakdowns for four of the main characters were released to the public. Check these out:
ARCHIE ANDREWS | A high school sophomore, the redhead is still boyishly handsome but “pumped and looking good after working construction for his dad during the summer.” Archie is grappling with heavy issues and juggling the interest of several girls while discovering his passion for writing and performing music against his father and his football coach’s better wishes. Oh, and he’s harboring more than one dark, terrible secret.

BETTY COOPER | The blonde and pretty sophomore is described as having “some self-esteem issues and affinity for Adderall.” Eager-to-please, wholesome and studious, Betty has a super-crush on her longtime best bud, Archie. But tired of being the “perfect” everything, she turns to her new friend, Veronica, for life advice. Betty has an emotionally brittle mom, a goth-like sister and a coveted spot on the cheerleading squad — though with certain conditions….

VERONICA LODGE | Producers are aiming to ideally cast a Latina as this “silver-tongued” stunner, who has just returned to Riverdale from New York following a scandal which resulted in her father going to prison. Extremely intelligent, self-confident and immediately popular, Veronica is eager to reinvent herself — from Mean Girl to caring friend.

JUGHEAD JONES | A hearing-impaired actor is being sought to play Jughead as an “emo-heartthrob.” The lanky lad is Archie’s former best friend, seeing as the two still are smarting from a rift that took place between them. Angry, but with a philosophical bent, Jughead “refuses to take the olive branch being proffered by Archie, the hurt goes that deep.”
What do you think? Do these breakdowns get you excited for the program?

More importantly: Will Jughead still wear his crown?

That IS the most important question! :)
Hmm, interesting descriptions, and it's all fine, except, Mrs. Cooper has always been portrayed as a very supportive, caring and proud mom of all three of her children, so that's off-putting...
I understand there's gotta be drama with every character, and I don't know why that bothered me so much, but it does :P
Also, if Mr. Lodge is in jail, does that mean he's not around?? And the Lodges aren't super rich?? Hiram and his wealth have been huge parts of the Riverdale story since the beginning - seems strange they'd dump that...
And Betty and Adderall, huh? Hmm...

Maybe he's not around -- yet.

I was most struck by the idea that they are seeking a hearing impaired actor to play Jughead. I also want to know about the rift that's being set up between Archie and Jughead.

My understanding from past articles is that we will be seeing other familiar characters, such as Kevin and the Pussycats.

Yeah, I think Hiram will definitely be apart of the show, eventually, too

Funny enough, reading that Jughead will be played by a hearing-impaired actor was noticed but I just thought "neat" and moved on - maybe they're thinking about Sean Berdy from "Switched at Birth" ? I don't watch that show, but I think it's pretty popular...

I think they'd be silly not to include Kevin of course, and it'd be fun (maybe frustrating, too, haha) to see all of characters we know and love.

Interesting they didn't have any blurb about Reggie...
