Tulsa, OK: Equality Center Targeted with Vandalism & Refusal of Services

Police are investigating two separate acts of vandalism directed at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center in Tulsa, OK.

According to news reports, somebody driving a white trucks fired more than a dozen shots from a pellet gun at the building's entrance area at around 12:20 AM on Monday, 03/06/17.

Later in the day at around 3:00 PM, a man entered the building and began yelling at the people inside. According to reports, he "called them homosexual slurs and even said he wised they were dead."

The Equality Center was in the news late last week after the group's executive director complained that they were struggling to find any local contractors to provide plumbing or fire safety inspections due to their LGBT advocacy nature.

Oklahoma does not include sexual orientation or gender identity in its hate crime laws. Additionally, the state's lawmakers are currently working to pass legislation allowing anyone to refuse services to anyone else on the basis of their religious beliefs.
